Weeks 25 To 28 of pregnancy

Key Fetal Developments

In the seventh month, the baby’s organs mature and its movements become more pronounced:

  • Week 25: The baby is now about 35 cm long and weighs around 660 grams. The baby’s skin is still wrinkled but has started to smooth out.

  • Week 26: The baby begins to open and close its eyes. While its vision is still developing, it can now sense light and dark.

  • Week 27: The baby has more developed brain activity. By now, the baby is growing rapidly and is roughly 36 cm long.

  • Week 28: The baby is now considered viable, meaning it could survive outside the womb with medical assistance if born prematurely. The baby weighs about 1 kg.

Symptoms for New Mothers

Your body is continuing to change as pregnancy progresses:

  • Increased Baby Movement: The baby’s movements will be more distinct and noticeable.

  • Heartburn and Indigestion: As your uterus grows, it pushes against your stomach, which can lead to acid reflux and heartburn.

  • Shortness of Breath: As the uterus expands, it can press against your diaphragm, making it harder to take deep breaths.

  • Back and Hip Pain: With the increasing weight, many women begin experiencing more discomfort in the back and hips.

Birth takes a woman’s deepest fears about herself and shows her that she is stronger than them

Doctor Visit Expectations

Regular check-ups now become more focused on labor preparation:

  • Ultrasound: A growth ultrasound may be conducted to monitor the baby’s size and positioning.

  • Monitor for Preterm Labor: Your doctor will check for signs of preterm labor and educate you on warning signs.

  • Vaccines: Some doctors may offer the flu shot or whooping cough vaccine to protect both you and the baby.
